I basically ripped off “Warrior” (2011).
I had no shame. But this was the first real thing I wrote in my, let’s say, young adult life.
In high school, I had written some short stories. One of them was called “Crunchies” and I remember it was published in a writing collection. The story was basically “Groundhog Day” on a train and I thought it was the most brilliant thing ever. It wasn’t. However, I remember overhearing the editor-in-chief and the other editors discussing which stories to add to the end of year collection and they added mine only because I was a senior and it was my last year. They took pity on the story.
Anyway, “Devolution” was a short story I wrote around 2011. I was a junior in college and I had nothing better to do. After all, who needed to do engineering problem sets?
