(The spoilers shall continue! Episodes 4-6 are below)
My memory is beginning to get hazy. I’m realizing now as I recall details that I definitely indulged myself in details a bit. I think the character work is good, but I probably could have condensed this into a 2 hour movie.
2016: the journey continues with John’s mind being blown when he realizes that Erin is still alive. His little sister, presumed dead all these years, is still alive. By this point, the age gap is definitely questionable. We then spend a lot of time getting to know Max and Claudette, these new people in St. Cloud. We find that Max is very regretful for having let Erin go all these years ago. We also learn that Claudette was the one to find this diary that started it all and went behind Max’s back to get this going. During this time, an aging Molly is trying to remember what happened to Erin. How is it possible that she’s alive? Max relieves himself of this guilt but redeems himself (in his mind) by telling Molly and John where to go next, based on a postcard. The police arrive, and John and Kelly leave.
1980: Molly falls deeper into drugs and can’t pull herself backout. Tim had assaulted Erin and John, her ex husband, is missing. Her life is in shambles.
1998: Erin, having escaped the fire somehow, begins a new life in East Grand Forks and finds some comfort in an old friend named Max, the same Max from 2016. Some drama occurs.
I think I dragged Molly and Erin’s story a bit too much. However, I think that Molly needed to be dragged to the bottom, having failed Erin, and John dead, and dating a druggie (Tim), she needed to redeem herself. Erin and Max’s relationship had to start off strong and then devolve.
Damn, this story is depressing!
